TEACHING AND LEARNING

Electives update:

The Year 5/6 Electives Program is in full swing! As part of our preparation for the Energy Breakthrough (EBT) event in November, our Survival Skills team has been practising setting up tents. Students have been working collaboratively, demonstrating strong teamwork and communication skills to complete the task effectively. They also conducted a full stocktake of the tent kits to ensure all equipment was accounted for and ready to go.

Integrated:

Students across the school have continued their investigations into Australian history, making connections between life in the past and the present. Check out the fascinating artefacts display in the Year 1/2 building. It’s a wonderful showcase of learning and curiosity in action!

Numeracy:

Our prep students have been learning to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s. They are exploring patterns in numbers and practising counting aloud together as a class. Students are also applying their skills in hands-on activities such as grouping objects and using number charts. This helps them build strong foundations for addition and multiplication.

In Year 1/2, students have been exploring fractions. They’ve been investigating fractions of a whole and of a collection. Using pegs and string, students represented fractions on their classroom number line, making learning hands-on and visual.

Our Year 3/4 students have been learning about directional language and location. They have explored mapping skills, grid coordinates and the use of north, south, east and west to describe movement. Students have enjoyed applying these concepts through hands-on activities such as creating and following maps, including a map of their own classroom. This learning has helped them develop problem-solving skills and a stronger understanding of spatial awareness.

Our Yea 5/6 students have been analysing data, including AFL and netball statistics from recent rounds. They have explored how to interpret and compare different sets of information to identify patterns and trends. Students have enjoyed connecting mathematics to real-life sports, making the learning meaningful and engaging. This has also supported their ability to think critically and draw conclusions from data.

Literacy:

What an incredible Book Week celebration! Our entire school came together for a vibrant parade, showcasing an array of creative and colourful costumes inspired by beloved book characters. It was truly amazing to see the imagination and effort that went into each outfit!

Throughout the day, students immersed themselves in the joy of reading, exploring the CBCA Shortlisted books and sharing stories that sparked curiosity and conversation. The event was a wonderful reminder of the magic of books and the power they have to bring us all together.
