PE and Sports Report

Sovereign Division Basketball
On Friday the 8th of August we had 20 students attend the Sovereign Division Basketball tournament. We had a boys team and a girls team competing in the B Grade competition.
Boys won against Wathaurong Cluster, lost a close one to Phoenix after being level with one minute to go then lost to Delacombe Primary School.
Our girls won all three games to make the semi-final where they defeated Ballan. They made the grand final and defeated Forest Street in a tough contest.
Highlights from the day were the teamwork and sportsmanship shown by our students, their efforts in defence and the two three-point shots scored by Kitarah and Molly. Well done to all students involved and thank you to all the parents and volunteers who supported our students with umpiring and scoring.
Prep – Year 4 Learning:
This term our Year Prep – 2 students have been learning gymnastics skills. Students have relished the chance to get on the equipment and learn new skills such as forward rolls, partner balances, gymnastic shapes and the spiderman handstand. The highlight of the term so far, for most students, was the obstacle course where they got to showcase their new skills.
Year 3-4 Learning:
Our Year 3 and 4 students have participated in aerobics lessons as part of their gymnastics unit. Students learned about different elements of aerobics such as an active warm up, cardiovascular conditioning and being able to move to the beat of the music. The music was very fast, but students got better at mirroring Mr O at the front of the group. After learning a range of aerobics movements, they put them together in small groups. Students tried to do the movements in synchronisation; however, this took lots of practice.
Year 5-6 Learning:
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been learning the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. It is a very fast paced sport and has elements of netball and America football. The basic aim of the game is to get the frisbee to your teammate in the endzone to catch a goal. We had to practise our throwing and catching because when the disc hits the ground it is a turnover. At the start of term, students were all trying to do long passes; however, they have learned that short passes are more likely to be successful. Students have also been learning how to do a range of roles in sport such as umpire, scorer, timekeeper, captain, coach, equipment manager and media personnel.
