Kinder Bike day

In Term 3, K4 children have been learning about how God gives us rules to help us live in community and the importance of rules to help keep us safe in the neighbourhood. One of the focuses is how to be safe on the road using Seemore Safety series. To reinforce these safety concepts, children were invited to bring their bikes/scooters and helmets to Kinder on August 25.
When Bike Day came around, the children were all abuzz with excitement! After a quick briefing of safety rules on a bike at our morning Mat Time, we made our way to the Primary basketball court. Cones were set up to mark the riding tracks and off the children went. The children rode in one direction as a group, turned to go the other way, then slalomed around the cones. Some children zipped and zoomed with confidence, others enjoyed cruising casually, still others concentrated hard to ride carefully.
Through this experience, children learned how to follow safety instructions when preparing for Bike Day, such as wearing a correctly-fitted helmet, closed toe footwear, and riding a bike that is the right size, as well as to apply safety rules when riding their bikes like how to ride in a group, keeping a safe distance from other riders, navigating around obstacles, being aware of other people and riders at all times, and following directions. Bike Day was a wonderful learning experience to practice important safety principles whilst having loads of fun!
