Year 10s Take on the Outdoors

Rock-Climbing & Abseiling

On Tuesday the 19th of August, the Year 10 Outdoor Education class ventured out to Whipstick Gully in Warrandyte to further their rock-climbing experiences and move from the great indoor facilities we have here onsite, to some free-hand rock-climbing walls and develop their skills. The weather was set up to be a great day but the fresh morning made for a chilly start with the sun hiding behind the mountains. The students challenged themselves on 3 different courses of varying heights and abilities showing the need to work together as a team to help each other find the right lines and opportunities to climb up the wall. After lunch they had the opportunity to abseil and learn more about the local environment we were in at the time.

Mountain Biking

Last Tuesday (26th of August), 11 keen Year 10 Outdoor Ed students braved the cool, damp weather and spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful mountain bike trails in Silvan. Led by Cooper from Joyride, we rode through God's magnificent landscapes of tall mountain ash, tree ferns and muddy puddles. There was a wide range of student experience with mountain biking but what was really impressive was how well everyone participated and had a go at the trails. There were some uphill climbs, some flowy downhills and some obstacles to navigate. This experience provided us with a great break from the classroom and we are so fortunate to have such amazing places to explore and enjoy within minutes of our school. The best kind of school and work day!
