Students Speak with Confidence

Primary Students Shine in Public Speaking

For the second year running, MECS hosted the Rotary Primary School Speech Competition. Five schools entered this year, with two students representing each. This event allows students to showcase their God-given talent for public speaking, which is widely cited as being the #1 fear for most people! Students chose from a list of topics, then wrote, practised, and presented their speech. Joshua W and Jenny H delivered wonderful speeches, using clear, confident voices, engaging facial expressions and movements, humour, and stimulating content. We applaud their willingness to participate in this extra-curricula activity! We were delighted when Josh received 1st place, and the chance to present again at the Rotary Finals.

Two days later, Senior Primary held their second inhouse Speech Competition. This event was created last year due to the interest students showed when auditioning for the Rotary event. As only two students could go through to Rotary, the students asked if MECS could hold our own! What a perfect idea! This year, five students presented in front of their teachers and peers. They were:

Alyssa R with What’s more important – intelligence or curiosity? (3rd place).

Zahara M with, If I had 3 wishes, what would they be?

Alannah VS with Four Famous Scientists in History.

Flynn S with If I could have any superpower, I would have… (2nd place).

Jenny H with If I could have any superpower, I would have… (1st place).

Josh W opened the event with his winning speech, If I could have any superpower, I would have…

Each student was congratulated with a Certificate of Achievement for having the courage, creativity, and commitment to speak before an audience. Future orators look just like them!

We love it when students put forward an idea that we can action and we applaud them!
