Primary Dances Up a Storm!

Groovin’ Together: Primary Dance Incursion

When our Student and Tribal Leaders went to the National Young Leaders’ Day back in March this year, the teachers entered MECS into a competition for a dance workshop to be held at school – and we won! Dean, from Dance Curriculum, ran 4 separate sessions for each of the levels in Primary, which then culminated in a whole Primary School dance. It was amazing, and the students were absolutely buzzing afterwards.

Dance Curriculum is an in-school program that is designed to provide lessons that will help children fall in love with learning. Their vision is for every child to live a fulfilling, purpose-driven life. Why are dance lessons so engaging? Not only do they boost physical health, improve strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, and posture, they also enhance cardiovascular health and bone density. Learning dance routines promotes discipline, resilience, teamwork, and empathy, while fostering creativity and self-expression.

Emotionally, dance serves as a powerful outlet for stress and an effective way to increase confidence and self-esteem. On top of all that – the students came away saying how much FUN they had had! So much so, that it looks like we will do this again.
