Book Week 2025

Thanks to our enthusiastic community at St Cecilia’s, Book Week 2025 was a wonderful celebration of all things reading.
Starting with our Author Visit by Ruth McGurk last week, Book Week was officially launched this year by our annual St Cecilia’s Book Week Parade on Monday. This much loved school event was well supported by all year levels with many families also in attendance.
Throughout this week, students have been enjoying CBCA shortlisted books with their classmates, with many of these shortlisted books now available for students to borrow from our school library. Mystery Readers have been suddenly appearing in the junior classrooms. Year 4, 5 and 6 students enjoyed a virtual Author Talk through the NSW State Library with Matt Cosgrove and Eva Amores (Macca the Alpaca and The Worst Week series), which highlighted the links between illustrations and writing ideas.
Our Year 5 and 6 students have also been busy designing and displaying posters to encourage donations for this year's Literacy charity, 123Readwithme. This local charity collects pre-loved books in excellent condition, then sorts and sends them to schools, child and maternal health centres, hospitals and many other places where placing a book into the hands of a child can encourage the development of literacy skills, and promote a love of reading.
We will be collecting books for one more week, so it is not too late to check over your bookshelves and send a couple of books along to support this charity. Thank you so much to those who have already donated. We are sure these books will be very gratefully received.
With enormous thanks to all the staff, parents and students of St Cecilia’s for embracing Book Week, and ensuring this special week is such a highlight in our school calendar
