Visual Art
Tristan has successfully completed two impressive art projects: a fishing satchel and a stool. With the artistic guidance provided by SLSO Amorette, he was able to effectively realise his vision, resulting in outstanding finished products. Excellent work, Tristan!
Visual Design
On Tuesday 12 August, the Year 11 and 12 Visual Design and Visual Arts students made their second visit to the Stanthorpe Art Gallery. During this visit, the students had the opportunity to view an exhibition by Brisbane artist Chris Worfold. They were also fortunate to listen to a presentation by internationally acclaimed Aboriginal artist Lloyd Hornsby from Glen Innes, alongside his wife, Wendy.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Mary Findlay (Gallery Director), Robyn Coates (President of the Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society), Dan McArthur (Business Manager), and Leon Ward (Marketing Manager), all of whom contributed by sharing insights about their roles within the gallery.
Lastly, we would like to thank Wendy Roots and Tertia Maynard for facilitating this excursion, made possible through the program and funding from The Team Make It Tenterfield.
Industrial Technology
Congratulations to our Year 12 students for their outstanding presentations of their major works in Industrial Technology (Metal). We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr Sproule and Mrs Marshman for their unwavering dedication in providing our students with the necessary time and support to successfully complete their projects.
Agriculture
The Dubbo Merino Wether Competition took place on August 11 and 12, bringing together 76 schools for an engaging and educational event that celebrated agricultural skills and knowledge. Students from across the region had a unique opportunity to participate in various activities aimed at enhancing their understanding of the wool industry and rural practices.
After the fleece marketing segment, students engaged in a workshop focused on working dogs, where they learned about the essential role these animals play in managing sheep and farm operations. This hands-on experience allowed participants to observe skilled working dogs in action and appreciate the collaboration between farmer and dog.
Furthermore, the Farmers' Challenge provided a platform for students to test their practical knowledge and problem-solving abilities related to agricultural life, creating an interactive and enjoyable way to connect with the farming community.
The Dubbo Merino Wether Competition remains a significant event that inspires the next generation of agricultural leaders while fostering a deeper appreciation for the wool industry and rural communities. Congratulations to all participants representing THS, and special thanks to Mr Jones, Ms Parker, and Mr McCowen for their support.
Brisbane Ekka
Tenterfield High School proudly participated in the annual Brisbane Ekka from August 3 to 6, showcasing the remarkable talents and dedication of our students across various events.
Our Senior and Intermediate Paraders represented THS with enthusiasm and skill throughout the competition. We are delighted to announce a significant achievement in the Junior Led Heifer class, where THS secured fourth place. This heifer, bred by Jennifer Smith, was expertly led by Phillippa Lyons in the ring. Congratulations to both for their outstanding efforts!
The competition was fierce, and our students met the challenge with admirable resolve. Following this success, Tuesday's events concluded on a high note, with our team of interschool judges performing exceptionally well. We are particularly proud of three individual students—Katie McCowen, Olivia Merchant, and Laura Aquilini—who advanced to the junior judging finals. They confidently articulated their reasoning behind their selections in front of an audience exceeding 200 students, teachers, parents, and producers.
Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and achievements. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to Mr Jones, Ms Parker and the support staff for their unwavering commitment to the THS agriculture program.

English
Year 7 English students have once more enjoyed the return of the sunshine to continue the last lesson in the guerilla poetry unit! Poets and artists shared their joy of poetry with the rest of the school. During the horror of the cold, windy, rainy week that was the Year 7's 'love bombed' staff of THS with acrostic, simile, metaphor, personification and haiku poems. Secretly written anonymously and placed in envelopes and left in staff pigeonholes! Just to bring a few smiles to faces!
