Principals Report

Ms Stephanie Scott

Welcome to our Week 5 Newsletter!

We have decided to publish only two newsletters per term—one in Week 5 and another in Week 10. With our Facebook page and Sentral parent portal being regularly updated, we want these newsletters to be special editions that celebrate and summarise the term’s successes. As a result, you’ll notice that this issue, along with future ones, will be bumper editions packed with highlights!

Agricultural Success

A huge congratulations to our fantastic Agriculture team who represented our school proudly at both the EKKA and the Merino Wether's Competition in Dubbo. These experiences provided incredible opportunities for our students. Thank you to Mr Phil Jones, Ms Olivia Parker, Mr  Tim Clay, and parent helpers Mr Richard Butler and Mrs Liz Bulwer for their dedication and support in making these events possible. We also received a lot of generous support from local graziers with the EKKA for which we are grateful for.

Sporting Achievements

Congratulations to our Tenpin Bowling team—Will S, Cooper W, Tristan, Corbin, and reserves Jackson M and George—who came second out of eleven schools in the region! They will now travel to Sydney to compete in the state finals on 25th September. I am incredibly proud that THS offers such a diverse range of opportunities for our students. While travelling to Sydney is no small feat, our new school bus and the dedication of Ms Zoe Olive in securing additional funding will make the journey much easier. We are all eager to hear how the team performs!

Well done also to the students who represented us at the Northwest Athletics Carnival. April, Tom, Toby R, Charlotte N, Elly, Tayah, and Pippa will now compete in the CHS State Carnival in Sydney. We wish them the very best of luck!

Year 6 Transition

It has been wonderful to welcome our Year 6 students for their transition visits. Student and family interviews with Mrs Roberta Koch and 2026 Year Adviser Mr James Kelly are well underway. Additionally, many families attended our Year 6 into 7 Information Night this week where it was lovely to meet them. For any families seeking further information about the school, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Stage 5 and Stage 6 Excursions

Support for a Stage 5 Sydney Excursion was very strong, and I’m pleased to announce that starting next year, this excursion will run every second year. Plans are also underway for our biennial Canberra excursion for Stage 6 students. Providing these opportunities remains an absolute priority for THS, and I want to extend my gratitude to our dedicated staff who make these experiences possible.

Cultural Celebrations and Wellbeing Initiatives

At the beginning of the term, we held a fabulous NAIDOC Week celebration featuring an incredible performance by Mitch Tambo. This was followed by one of the most engaging and thought-provoking staff presentations on Indigenous education and culture that I have ever attended. While we cannot make promises yet, we are currently working to book Mitch for student workshops next year.

Last week, we also acknowledged Bullying No Way Day. Students continue to work on their anti-bullying posters during Resilience lessons. This year’s focus was on the important role bystanders play in stopping bullying. I have the tough but enjoyable job of judging the posters and awarding prizes. We look forward to sharing these with you soon!

School Leadership and Upcoming Events

Finally, we are in the process of electing our school leaders for 2026. Several students have nominated and will present their speeches to the school next week. Our new school leaders will be formally inducted at the end-of-term assembly, an event to which families are warmly invited. This ceremony is closely followed by our Year 12 Graduation Assembly, always a bittersweet occasion.

So much more!

There is so much more in this edition! Wonderful success and involvement in Visual Arts, our exciting and worthwhile community participation in protecting our waterways, the edition of our new school bus and lots more! I hope you enjoy reading about all the amazing successes and opportunities at THS!
