Dear Families

Welcome to week 4 of Term 3! We've had a fantastic term so far and we are thrilled with the learning that's happening in our classrooms. We are very excited to continue our learning journey together. This term is full of engaging lessons, hands-on activities and new opportunities for growth. We are all looking forward to a fun-filled and productive term ahead.

LITERACY

During Phonics, students have been revising and reviewing the already learnt digraph sounds (ai, ay, ea, ee, igh, ie, oi, oy, ow, ou, oo, u etc.). Students have learnt the long vowel sound 'a' with split digraph a-e. Students have been practising  to read, spell and write the words and sentences using the learnt digraph sounds.

In Reading, students have been learning how to build on their prior knowledge about the the topic. They have been exploring non-fiction text features of an informational text. Students have also been learning how to recall facts and understand key vocabulary and words in a non-fiction text to summarise information and the main idea.

In Writing, students have learnt how to write a procedural text by using step by step instructions. Students have participated in planting a seed experience where every student had the opportunity to plant a bean seed by following the step by step instructions. Students then wrote a procedural text about the experience they participated by writing a procedure about "How to plant a seed?" The experience was based on the inquiry topic of 'Living things and their needs'. By participating in the experiment students were able to identify the basic needs of a plant such as water, soil, air, sunlight and space.

NUMERACY

In maths, we have been working on telling time on an analogue clock and fractions of half, quarter and eighth. Students have started building some confidence in telling the o'clock and half past time as they have been practising it everyday. Students have actually enjoyed  learning about the fractions and found it very interesting and exciting when solved fraction problems. Students have also explored how to collect data and represent the collected information by using tally charts, bar graphs and pictographs.

SEL/INQUIRY

In SEL, Students have been working on their Resilience projects including the GEM principles (gratitude, empathy and mindfulness). We have been focussing on our school value of Learning Together this term. Students have been learning and understanding many ways to work and learn together with their peers not only inside the classrooms but outside as well. Students have participated in a special lesson about 'Antibullying' where they got the opportunity to learn and understand what is bullying and what behaviours are the bullying behaviours. They have also learnt how to stand up against bullies and ask for help.

In Inquiry, students have explored the external features of living things by investigating the living things they found in the school yards such as lady bugs. Students have also learnt about the basic needs of living things such as food, water, air, shelter and space. To demonstrate their learning and understanding, students had the opportunity to plant a bean seed to experiment the process of a plant's life cycle and it's basic needs.
