Basketball Innovation
Year 5 and 6
The Basketball Sports Innovation Program in Term 3 will provide Year 5 and 6 students with an exciting opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of the game. Throughout the term, students will take part in a variety of drills, challenges, and match scenarios designed to enhance their dribbling, passing, shooting and defending abilities. They will also explore key tactical concepts, including positioning and movement off the ball. A strong focus will be placed on teamwork and sportsmanship, with students encouraged to communicate clearly, support their teammates, and show respect for all players.
Art Innovation
Year 2
In Term 3, Year 2 students will explore three exciting areas in their Visual Arts unit. First, they will build on their drawing skills by learning about proportion and shading techniques to create depth and detail. These skills will help them plan their own sculpture through a detailed sketch. Next, students will bring their drawings to life by creating a clay sculpture, further developing the clay skills introduced earlier in the year. Finally, they will experiment with a range of painting techniques to create a vibrant background that complements their sculpture.
Year 4
As part of this program, a professional artist will collaborate with students to design and create a large-scale architectural mural inspired by our school buildings and spaces. Students will explore how architecture can be represented through art by observing the shapes, lines, and structures that make up our school environment. They will learn how to develop a design concept, apply painting techniques, and scale up their drawings to create a cohesive mural. This project will also strengthen students' collaboration and teamwork skills as they work together to create a unique and meaningful artwork that reflects their school community.
LOTE Innovation
Year 3 and 4
In Term Three, Year 3 and 4 students will explore a variety of traditional and modern Chinese leisure activities, including jianzi (shuttlecock), Chinese chess, calligraphy and Tai Chi. Through games, storytelling and hands-on experiences, students will begin to understand the cultural and historical background of these pastimes. They will also compare them with familiar Australian activities, developing their ability to follow simple instructions in Chinese, describe what they enjoy, and express preferences. This unit encourages curiosity, builds basic language skills, and introduces students to the rich traditions of Chinese culture in fun and engaging ways.
Year 5 and 6
This term, Year 5 and 6 students will investigate a range of traditional and contemporary Chinese leisure activities such as jianzi, Chinese chess, calligraphy and Tai Chi. They will explore the cultural and historical significance of these practices and reflect on their relevance in modern-day life. Through comparing Chinese and Australian pastimes, students will develop a deeper understanding of both cultures and identify shared values and differences. Using Chinese to follow instructions, describe activities, and express their thoughts, students will strengthen both their language and intercultural understanding in this hands-on and reflective unit.
Music Innovation
Prep
In Term Three, Prep students will begin learning the ukulele. They will start by exploring the different parts of the instrument and learning the names of the strings. Students will then develop correct playing technique, focusing on how to hold the ukulele properly. They will first play songs using open strings and, as their skills grow, begin placing fingers on the strings. Towards the end of the term, students will use this knowledge to learn and play simple chords such as C major and F major.
