To Our 2024 Foundation Cohort 

We stand here today reflecting on the year that has passed. Just like all of you, we came to Yarrabing with that feeling of the unknown - a mix of nervousness and excitement. Not only were we stepping into a new role, but we also had to learn and work with all of you, as well as the entire new staff team. And wow, what a journey it has been!

Year 7 is such a unique time, and being the foundation year at Yarrabing made it even more special. There have been so many “firsts” for all of us - new friends, new routines, new teachers, and a whole new school environment. But looking at all of you now, it’s clear how much you’ve grown - not just academically, but as individuals. You’ve shown resilience, creativity, and kindness, and we couldn’t be prouder of the people you are becoming.

This year hasn’t been without its challenges. But it’s through these challenges that we learn and grow. Acknowledging our flaws and striving to be better gives us the chance to become the best versions of ourselves. We want you to trust the groupings we’ve created for your class next year. We’ve carefully considered each of you individually and paired you with someone who can both support and challenge you in your learning journey next year. 

As this year comes to an end, we want you to know how proud we are of each of you. We are equally excited to continue this journey with you. And know this - you will always hold a special place in our hearts as our first-ever Year 7 cohort, our foundation year.

Your efforts in facilitating activities made a real difference - not only in welcoming our new students but also in creating a warm, engaging environment. From participating in activities to guiding tours and building connections, you’ve helped our incoming Year 7's feel supported and excited for their journey ahead.
