Stage 1

A message from Stage 1

Wow! We’re already in Week 6, and what a fantastic time it’s been! Stage 1 students have enjoyed wonderful experiences at the Athletics Carnival and gymnastics sessions and had a great time sharing their learning at the K-2 assembly. It has been a joy to see their skills develop and to witness the focus and happiness on their faces.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers and support staff for organsing and helping with these engaging activities. We are grateful for our incredible team at Ben Venue, whose efforts truly make these opportunities possible and rewarding for our students.

English

We are learning to write a narrative.

We are successful when we can:

  • plan a narrative using a story graph
  • grab the reader’s attention with an exciting, action-packed, or suspenseful beginning
  • create a problem or challenge for the characters that makes the reader want to know what will happen next
  • write a strong ending that gives a satisfying resolution to the complication
  • reread our story to check for spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes.

Mathematics

We are learning to give and follow directions.

We are successful when we can:

  • give directions to get from one place to another
  • use directions, such as 'left' and 'right', to instruct people where to go
  • follow directions that use 'left' and 'right' to tell us which direction to go
  • locate features within maps of familiar locations, such as our school or town.

Integrated Studies

We are learning about different cultures.

We are successful when we can:

  • locate China and Tuntou on a map
  • follow directions to make a paper lantern.
