Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, we are learning to plan and write about the solution in the fictional text.

VOCABULARY

Narrative: a fiction text that tells a story

Fiction: a made up story

Setting: where a story takes place

Problem: something to be solved

Solution: fixing the problem

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Discuss your child’s favourite story book and the problem the characters are facing.  Discuss what a problem is and all the possible solutions the character/s can do to fix the problem.  Ask students to share problems they have come across in their lives or a book before and how they have fixed the problem. Encourage your child to notice and discuss the details included in the text and /or pictures for the clues.

After the discussion your child can have a go at writing using any media, paper or technology about the character.

Eg:

One of the monkeys dropped his banana on the ground. Now he was wondering how he could go down and get that banana. He was scared of going out of the treehouse as it was dark. So the monkey asked his friend to help him. They both climbed down the treehouse and got the banana. Alternatively, the monkey was’t too hungry so he let go of the banana and went off to sleep.
