This week in Reading, we will continue to learn how to summarise a fiction text.
VOCABULARY
Summarise - telling the most important parts of a text, in your own words, in a much shorter way
Fiction - books that are made up, imaginative or pretend.
Sequence - in order
Events - something that happens
Characters - a person in a story; either a human, a fantasy character, mythical character, or even an animal.
Setting - where a story or event takes place.
Problem - something that has gone wrong that needs to be fixed.
Solution - solving the problem
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Get your child to talk about what a fiction text that they’ve read. Then they can summarise the correct sequence of events in a fiction text Prompt them to use proper vocabulary from the text read, like characters, setting, problem and solution in the summary of a fiction text. Similarly to last week, start with this activity by doing it orally and/ or by drawing the pictures to represent the student's thinking and adding labels. Students can summarise orally to a sibling/ family member/ pet or their favourite toy.
Students are encouraged to use different media everyday like orally on Monday, drawing pictures on Tuesday, using technology on Wednesday, using chalk to draw on Thursday and orally again on Friday.
