The Importance of Reviewing Student Reports
Semester 2 reports have been published on Compass and are an essential tool for understanding each child's academic progress, strengths, and areas for growth. Reviewing these reports carefully provides valuable insights into how well a student is progressing and allows for timely intervention if needed. It's an opportunity for parents/carers to engage in meaningful conversations with their children about their learning journey. We encourage families to take the time to go over the reports and discuss any opportunities for further development. Working together as a community is key to supporting every student's success.

Their diverse expertise, fresh perspectives, and passion for education will undoubtedly enrich the learning environment for our students. We are confident that these new additions will play a key role in continuing to provide high-quality, engaging educational experiences. The New Victorian Teaching and Learning Model
We are also excited to announce the introduction of the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM), which will be implemented across schools starting next year. This model focuses on ensuring that all students receive high-quality, inclusive teaching that is responsive to their individual needs. It emphasises collaborative learning, real-world problem solving, and critical thinking skills. The VTLM also integrates a strong focus on student well-being and the development of emotional intelligence, recognising that a well-rounded approach to education is key to student success. We look forward to seeing how this new framework will enhance the learning experiences of our students.

Celebrating Language and Culture: End-of-Year Activities in Our Chinese Classrooms
As we wrap up another fantastic year of learning in our Chinese classrooms, our students have embraced creativity and culture through hands-on activities that bring Chinese traditions to life!
Year 7 students explored the vibrant colours of traditional Chinese performing arts of Peking Opera. They designed and painted their own Peking Opera masks, showcasing their understanding of the symbolism behind each colour and expressing their artistic skills.
Year 8 students tapped into their creative side by crafting Chinese paper fans, decorating them with unique patterns inspired by traditional Chinese visual art. The fans not only reflected their artistic talents but also their appreciation for the beauty of Chinese culture.
Year 9 students took a culinary journey, learning how to make authentic Chinese dumplings! Guided by Ms Bian's home recipe, they folded and cooked their own dumplings, enjoying the fruits of their labour as they tasted their delicious creations.
These engaging activities allowed our students to connect with Chinese culture in meaningful ways while having fun and fostering their creativity. We’re so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm this year and look forward to more exciting learning adventures next year!
Reflections on Year 9 Chinese learning - Zohra SHAFAQ, 9A
At the beginning of the year, I thought I had made a mistake choosing Chinese as one of my electives, but I was completely wrong. Once I started learning Chinese, it quickly became my favourite subject—within just a week!
We’ve done so many fun activities, both in and out of the classroom. One of the highlights was our excursion to Chinatown and the Chinese Museum, where we learned about Chinese culture and history of Chinese communities in Australia. We also had delicious Chinese noodles at a restaurant as part of our excursion and participated in scavenger hunt along the alleyways in Chinatown, which was so much fun!
Inside the classroom, we not only improved our language skills, but also our cultural understandings. We explored and compared different school lives, festivals and foods. What's more, we got to make Chinese dumplings in our last lesson! The dumplings were so flavourful, and it was great way to end the year!
I will never regret choosing Chinese as my elective. I’ve learned so much and had the best experiences in this class. Thank you, Ms Bian, for teaching us this year. It was an amazing journey learning Chinese with you!
