Preps
Over the past weeks, our Preps have been practising throwing and catching using softballs, foxtails, and a variety of other balls. These activities have helped them build their hand-eye coordination while also developing their focus and confidence. This week, they’ve started practising their kicking skills, working on kicking a ball with accuracy towards a target.
During warm-ups, students have enjoyed participating in games involving tagging and throwing, which encourage quick thinking and teamwork. We have also been discussing the importance of staying active for a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Students have shared great examples, such as how running around in the playground or playing their favorite sports helps them feel strong and happy.
Grades 1/2
In Grades 1 and 2, students have been working kicking with accuracy. Through partner-based soccer drills, they’ve practised kicking soccer balls to a target and improving their aim with consistent effort. This week, they transitioned to our footy program, where they’ve started learning how to punt a ball with correct technique.
A highlight of the term so far has been their creativity in designing their own relay circuits to practise dribbling soccer balls. This activity required students to work collaboratively, using their problem-solving skills to create fun and challenging courses for their peers.
They’ve also explored movement challenges, such as figuring out the best part of the foot to use for dribbling and the level of effort needed to control the ball effectively. These lessons have taught them how different levels of effort can influence the distance and precision of their kicks.
Grades 3/4
The Grade 3 and 4 students have been having an exciting term, beginning with a futsal program run by Football Australia. This program introduced them to essential futsal techniques, such as dribbling with changes in speed and direction, which help students dodge obstacles and opponents. Students practised these skills in dynamic drills that encouraged agility, quick decision-making, and spatial awareness. This week, they’ve begun an AFL program, where they’ll focus on mastering the punt kick while integrating a run and dodge into their movements.
In addition to practising skills, students participated in adapted futsal games, where they applied basic rules and scoring systems. These games offered an opportunity to demonstrate fair play and good sportsmanship, which are central to our PE program. It has been wonderful to see students cheer for their peers, respect the rules, and show positive attitudes in the gym.
Grades 5/6
Students in Grades 5 and 6 have been pushing their abilities to the next level by practising specialised movement skills in futsal. They’ve focused on linking dribbling, passing, and shooting into fluid sequences, preparing them for real-game scenarios. This has required not only physical coordination but also strategic thinking, as they learn to anticipate their teammates’ movements and make quick decisions under pressure. This week, they’ve begun their AFL program, where they are building on these skills by practising punting after a run and dodge, further enhancing their accuracy and control.
A key focus during invasion games has been understanding and applying the concept of passing into empty zones, which helps create opportunities for teammates to advance the play. These discussions and practise have highlighted the importance of teamwork and communication on the field.
Last, students have been reflecting on the value of fair play and ethical behaviour during physical activities. They’ve received constructive feedback on how to maintain respect and integrity in competitive situations, helping them grow as both athletes and individuals.
Yours faithfully,
