Música y Arte Escénicas
After the incredible success of the musical production showcasing adapted choreographies, we can only express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made it possible—students, teachers, parents, and the whole community. The production highlighted the talents and skills of our students, fostering not only musical and movement abilities but also a deeper understanding of the cultural richness of Spanish-speaking countries. Through traditional music, costumes, food, and expressions, our students embarked on a vibrant journey of learning and creativity.
Foundation
Foundation students continued their musical journey by developing an understanding of rhythm and movement. They explored the concept of rhythm, practicing clapping to specific beats and tempos while also learning to play simple beats with sticks to build their coordination and motor skills. Their semester culminated in a delightful performance of "El Baile del Dinosaurio," where students sang, danced, and acted like dinosaurs, combining creativity, musical awareness, and physical expression.
1/2
Meanwhile, Year 1/2 students delved deeper into rhythm and tempo, discovering how tempo can change from fast to slow and learning to identify time signatures like 1/1 and 1/2 in their musical games. They worked on clapping games to recognise and replicate beats in songs, and they learned to perform the song "Mata de Azahar de la India" while playing African shakers to accompany their singing, blending rhythm with cultural appreciation.
3/4
In Years 3/4, students focused on the three core elements of music—rhythm, melody, and harmony. They learned how melody is formed by single notes played in sequence, harmony involves chords or simultaneous notes, and rhythm creates the structure through beats and tempo. By choosing instruments to represent each element, such as xylophones for melody, pianos for harmony, and drums for rhythm, they gained hands-on experience in understanding and demonstrating these concepts. This work culminated in their creation of original musical pieces, allowing them to showcase their understanding of these elements.
5/6
The Year 5/6 students built on this foundation, tackling more advanced compositions and preparing memorable performances for the Year 6 graduation. These included a stunning ballet dance, solo singing and piano performances, and a lively full-class ensemble of the Cumbia song "Cariñito," where they played drums and xylophones. Together, these achievements highlighted their growing mastery of rhythm, melody, and harmony, as well as their teamwork and creativity.
It has been a rewarding semester full of growth, discovery, and artistry. The students’ enthusiasm and dedication have been remarkable, and we thank everyone—parents, families, and community members—for your continued support. Let’s look forward to more musical adventures in the semesters ahead!
