From the Classroom

News from 5/6

In English, we recently wrapped up our persuasive letters about protecting polar bears in the Arctic, where students applied the persuasive devices and techniques they’ve been learning, such as emotive language, rhetorical questions, and facts, to make their arguments strong and convincing. Now, we are excited to give students the opportunity to choose a topic they are passionate about for their next persuasive project. Whether it’s a letter, speech, or presentation, students will use the skills they've acquired to persuade their audience. The focus will be on creating high-quality persuasive pieces that clearly communicate their opinions and effectively influence others.

In Numeracy, students will be revising what they have learned over the year. We will review the four operations and how to use efficient strategies to answer sums in different ways. Students will also investigate word problems and explore the vocabulary in each question to deconstruct the problem and work out the operation and the best way to solve the algorithm.

In Inquiry, we are looking at Australia’s beginning of federation and our constitution as well as looking at the three levels of government we have now and how our politicians govern our country.

What's happening in 3/4

Time is flying in 3/4! Students have been working hard on their inquiry projects, where they have been creating a puppet show based on their own version of 'The Gingerbread Man'. They have continued to show innovation, creativity and teamwork throughout their project and we are excited to see them perform for the junior school in the coming weeks.

In maths, students have been working on addition and subtraction, revising a variety of formulas to support their learning. They have also been working on a Location and Transformation Unit where they learned about maps and created a map of their classrooms!

Students have continued their study of poetry in English, unpacking different poems and the meanings behind them. It has been wonderful to see students so eager and engaged in a variety of poems!

News in 1/2s

The 1/2 students have been busy bees over the past 2 weeks! In English, we chose which text type we liked the best from narrative, informative and persuasive and created a piece of writing. We will be starting our poetry, rhymes and chants unit this week, starting with looking at the different elements of poems.

In Maths, we have been reviewing addition and subtraction strategies and how we can apply these to worded problems. We enjoyed using directional language to play games and direct students to find the hidden treasure. We also used the book 'Rosie's Walk', to draw a map of where Rosie walked around the farm. Next we will be investigating a bird's eye view of different areas.

We are nearing the end of our inquiry unit on eSafety. We have been learning about how to show respect to others during online interactions. We have also discussed what type of details are included in personal information and who we should or shouldn't give those details to.

The 1/2 students are looking forward to their Fun Day on Friday 6th December!

Fantastic Foundations

What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had in foundation. Here is an outlook on what we have been up too.

Maths:

In maths we explored the days of the week. We created some fantastic art work pieces that linked with this, including a very hungry caterpillar activity and train days of the week.

English:

We continued to explore different types of texts which led us into designing, labelling and creating our own robots. Each student was encouraged to think of key features their robot would have in the designing process. In the creating process we had our buddies join us to help create these amazing designs. They all looked fantastic and we were all so proud of our finished product.
