Casey Tech, a truly educationally enriching experience for Year 10's from Nossal. It has been an opportunity for us to discover the depths and diversity of science above the traditional subjects of Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Casey Tech brought with it a new way for us to learn different scientific concepts.
We started the day with workshops, where students were separated into groups of different topics of AI to study of human biology and physics related theories. We were fortunate enough to be in the biology group; a science class where we got to learn about Epidemiology, the study of diseases impacting human populations, and to really look at the underlying of perspectives of it not only from the scientific point of view but societal as well.
During our theory, we conducted simulation experiments of mixing specimens to test for a reaction, denouncing whether illness was present in the room or not. We then moved on to another experiment using micropipets, putting on our lab coats and gloves as we slay it away as Miniature scientists ready to embark on this exciting journey. Well, there were spillages, and a bit of mess was made but it was all a part of having fun. The best moment was at the end, where we came up with ideas that will help encourage change in the world, transforming our concepts into contraptions.
It was all in all, a flashback to our primary school days when we got to put our imagination to the test and unleash our artistic side, having the time of our lives. The contraptions that were made consisted of a distantantor that would beep if social distancing boundaries were broken, and as reminder to stay safe (Don't we all need that).
Additionally, there was also a machine called the Beernator that would stop people from drinking alcohol and indulging in unhealthy habits, a life saver really. Alongside that was a vending machine pharmacy, handy and efficient for times of need, and the cutest of them all, a machine that would give a person a hug when they were feeling down to help brighten up their dim days. It was an amazing experience, and we all left Casey tech with a basket full of learning.
