Dawn Fraser at Calrossy

Lunch with a legend

Calrossy was privileged to host Olympic legend and Athlete of the Century, Dawn Fraser AO, last week for several events culminating in the Sports Lunch on Saturday. Dawn was very generous with her time and attended the Senior Secondary Assembly on Friday,

attended a Friday night dinner with Captains and Parents with some Staff and Sponsors and a Sports Lunch on Saturday. More than 200 people attended the lunch. The interviews of Dawn by Julia Boland were fabulous, providing great insight into the Olympic Champion's life and drive. Her greatest advice to students whether on the sporting field or in the classroom, was to never give up and just keep going. In a very candid interview Dawn discussed her early career, the infamous flag incident in Tokyo and her greatest moment in sport according to her. That moment was her first gold medal in Melbourne, where her family surprised her and were in the stands watching. It was an insightful look into the life of a living legend. Our top sporting students were recognised and it saw the launch of the 2025 Rugby and Netball Tour to New Zealand next July.

Among the attendees at the Luncheon was the CEO of the Northern Inland Academy of Sport, Shona Eichorn, who made these remarks about the lunch.

"Thank you for bringing our most iconic Australian sports person (female and male) to the region … what a true legend. I could have listened to Dawn all day."
