Staff v Students Sport Term 1

In Term 1 we decided to get Staff vs Students sport up and running again.  It went so well last year with mass participation, so we wanted to continue on with it this year. It is a great way for students to work in a team with people in their year level that they may not usually interact with, and at the same time being physically active. It is a friendly but quite competitive event between Year 10's, 11's, 12's and staff, structured in a round robin with every team playing each week on Fridays at lunchtime. Throughout the term the staff remained undefeated in Volleyball and the Year 11's only lost one game; however it wasn’t until the finals that the Year 12's, who were seen to be underdogs, beat the Year 11's and made it into the grand final against the staff.  Unfortunately, the Year 12's couldn’t quite go all the way and the staff beat them quite convincingly in the grand final. Let’s see if one of the year levels can now beat the staff in this term's sport... Netball!

Yarra Division Cross Country

The Heights Cross Country students were amazing at Yarra Division Cross Country on Monday April 29. Not only were they great supporters of our own school, but all the others as well: this didn’t go unnoticed from other schools and those in the community.  Here is an excerpt from an email received from the Yarra District convenor:

I’d like to recognise and thank the Monbulk and Lilydale Heights students for their encouragement and sportsmanship at the finish line. For most of the day, there were groups from your school at the finish line area. Those students were not only cheering for their fellow students but were cheering for all schools as they passed.  Great to watch.

Congratulations to everyone that participated. A special mention to our podium finishers:

U13 Male                  1st - Finn S.                2nd - Harrison D.

U14 Male                  1st - Gordon K.

U15 Female              3rd - Grace P.

U16 Male                  2nd - Jack S.
