Principal's Message

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurru people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

On Wednesday, our Year 5 students embarked on their adventure to Waratah Beach for school camp. Engaging in a variety of exciting activities like the giant swing, beach games, climbing wall challenges and rock pool exploration, they've truly embraced the spirit of camp! Although a little chilly, we are hopeful the wet weather stays at bay until their safe return tomorrow afternoon.

Our Year 3/4 team started the Kitchen Garden program - a fantastic initiative offering students a chance to explore cooking, gardening and sustainability. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who make running this program possible.

This week, we also welcomed Kate Buckley from Monash University. Kate is joining us for the remainder of the year to support our Wellbeing Team with delivering student counselling sessions. She is a wonderful addition and we are excited to have her onboard.

This upcoming week will be a bit different as we observe the ANZAC Day public holiday on Thursday 25th, followed by a Curriculum Day on Friday 26th. Additionally, in accordance with our SunSmart policy, next Wednesday 24th marks the last day students are required to wear hats for outdoor activities and play.
