Creating Futures Together
Why did you choose Mamma Mia for this year’s musical? We wanted to choose a musical that's full of fun and universally loved, which is why we decided on Mamma Mia. It also allows us to explore a story with more mature characters compared to last year's Spongebob musical. This shift reflects our belief that our students are ready to take on new challenges and showcase their talents in all aspects of musical theatre performance.
How did the production process begin? The process kicked off with a series of auditions. During these sessions, our young performers read excerpts from the play and portrayed different characters to demonstrate their hidden talents. They not only had to grasp the essence of the characters and act accordingly but also had to learn the music to perform songs from the play.
How did the auditions and rehearsals go?
Throughout the audition process, we witnessed a remarkable level of enthusiasm and energy from our young performers. Their excitement was infectious, and their commitment to the roles was evident. During rehearsals, they continued to surprise us with their enthusiasm and creativity. The range of emotions experienced during the rehearsals only served to strengthen and improve the quality of the performances.
How has the cast taken on their roles? The entire cast, especially the lead characters, have embraced their roles with enthusiasm and dedication. They take ownership of their characters and consistently give their best at every rehearsal. Many of our student leaders have also stepped up to take on additional responsibilities, ensuring that the production process remains positive and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Who is supporting the production? We're incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff supporting the production. Alongside our production director, Mikayla Ellis, we have Damien Ryles directing the band and Nicholas Gramatakos and Andrew Steele leading the set design. The band is bolstered by student musicians Kaylee Hamilton, Alex Nash, and Adriano Reveri, while Linda Parker and Noah Fox are managing the sound and costume departments.
How can others get involved? It's wonderful to know that there's still room for others to join in and help with backstage tasks. We also have an upcoming incursion on April 30th and a production camp from May 10th to 12th.
The buzz around the school is palpable as excitement for the production builds. There's a lot of work ahead, but the positive energy is tangible throughout the school community. We look forward to sharing more updates as the show progresses in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
