A message from our School Council President

Verity Pearson

At Carnegie PS we value the role that parents play as partners in the education of their children. We encourage the whole school community to be active participants in the school and to interact positively with the school and each other.  There are many opportunities for parents to be involved in the school, including becoming a member of the Parents and Friends’ Association (PFA), being involved in the School Council, either as a Councillor or as a member of a sub-committee/ working party as well as helping at our regular working bees.

Our Carnegie PFA is a supportive parent network open to all families. Parental involvement in school life is a great way to help your child feel a sense of belonging to the school.  By engaging in our PFA, families can provide strong examples to their children on the benefits of participating and volunteering within a larger community, at the same time sending positive messages of the value we place on the school and their education. All members of the community are encouraged to be involved!

The aims and objectives of the PFA are:

  • to contribute to the wellbeing of the school community.
  • to encourage the participation of all parents in the life of the school and the education of their children.
  • to provide opportunities for all parents of students of the school to discuss issues concerned with the welfare and the general education policy of the school and to assist in the development of a shared parent view.
  • to contribute to school council.
  • to provide opportunities for parents to get to know each other and to be informed about their child’s school.
  • to provide information for parents to extend their understanding of school issues.
  • to work in cooperation with the school community, council and the principal.
  • to raise funds for the benefit of the school.

At Carnegie PS you may have noticed the PFA working to:

  • Build a strong parent community through the Class Representatives Program.
  • Fundraising and organising special events and social gatherings.
  • Generously planning for the provision of much needed items, equipment and supporting school improvements.
  • Managing the second hand uniform stall.
  • Supporting parent information sessions and welcoming new families to the school.
  • Providing a parent representative voice to communicate family’s opinions to the school and school council.

The more involved families we have in the PFA, the broader the resources available to help us create a vibrant, engaged and supportive school community.  Many hands make light work, and often all you have to do is give just one hour to make a difference.

Your voice and input is valued whether you volunteer at events, provide expertise that will help us as a school community make better decisions or simply want to air an opinion.

Five Reasons why you should join the Carnegie PS Parents and Friends Association (PFA)

  1. Be Involved – It’s great to be involved in your children’s school – even in a small way.
  2. Have a Voice – Be part of the discussion and have a say about PFA decisions, future direction, fundraising goals and what’s important to you.
  3. Make a Friend – Take the opportunity to meet other parents and guardians who also care about what goes on in our school and how they can contribute.
  4. Just One Hour – Lend a hand so we can get more done and make our school better for everyone.
  5. Make a difference!

For more information check out the PFA page on the Carnegie website and look out for the next PFA meeting (advertised monthly via Compass) to see how you can be involved. We look forward to welcoming you.

Thank you to all those parents who are active members of the PFA already or who volunteer in some way to help make our school great. You are appreciated.

If you are interested in becoming a member, it's free and you only need to sign in on Qkr!. You will then receive emails and invitations to the meeting and their minutes.
