Health and Physical Education

Foundation

Foundation students have continued to participate in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), which helps develop their balance, coordination, and basic movement skills. With the ongoing one-on-one support from our Year 6 Leaders, students have developed their confidence and independence each session. It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and determination as they build these fundamental physical skills.

“We really liked the jumping over hurdles and the rollerboard, it’s really fun” - Brooklyn FA

“I like the Rollerboard and I like the cricket one” - Annabelle FA

Year 1

Year 1 students have built upon their ball-handling skills through basketball and soccer station activities. Over the past two weeks, they’ve also been introduced to hockey, applying their dribbling and control skills in a new and exciting context. The students enjoyed trying out a new sport and demonstrated great adaptability and teamwork.

Year 2

Year 2 students continued to engage in modified team games of basketball and soccer, further developing their understanding of game rules and teamwork. This fortnight, they also attempted playing hockey, where they applied their movement and control skills in a different setting. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experimented with new sports.

“I like that we got to hit the dodgeball and get to hold the hockey stick in your hand, doing two things at the exact same time. I love to play hockey” - Lucy 2C

“I liked when I kept trying to score, and my hands were going at turbo speed when holding the hockey stick” - Ayla 2C

Year 3

In Year 3, students have transitioned from modified basketball games to Newcombe Volleyball. The focus has been on learning the fundamental volleyball techniques of the dig and the set, which they’ve been practising with partners through fun and engaging activities. Newcombe is a modified version of volleyball that allows students to catch the ball, providing more opportunities to develop their skills and demonstrate their understanding. The students have shown excellent cooperation and a strong willingness to learn something new.

Year 4

Year 4 students continued building on their Newcombe Volleyball skills this fortnight. With a focus on refining the dig and set techniques, they’ve worked closely in pairs and small teams to improve their accuracy and coordination. Students have practised using the net and also in partners or with the wall as pictured below. Their dedication and teamwork during these activities have been outstanding.

It’s fun when you’re trying to hit it over the net, but it’s hard” - Aysha 4C

“It’s challenging, and fun at the same time” - Aubree 4C

Year 5

Year 5 students have moved on from Tee Ball to playing European Handball. This exciting team sport has helped them develop offensive and defensive strategies, movement into space, and fast-paced decision-making. It’s been a great opportunity to build on teamwork and communication while enjoying a dynamic and engaging game.

Year 6

In Year 6, students have continued to focus on soccer, building on the strategies introduced earlier in the term. With a growing emphasis on tactical awareness, they’ve been working on positioning, defensive structures, and attacking formations. Their ability to communicate and collaborate as a team has shown fantastic progress.

“My strategy was to not leave my goal” - Levi 6B

“It was fun, I liked it a lot and I had fun playing it. Very enjoyable” - Akman 6B

Health

Eating the right foods—and enough of them—is essential for your child’s learning and development at school. Nutritious meals and snacks provide the energy children need to stay focused, concentrate in class, and participate in physical activity. When children have a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and healthy fats, they are more likely to have improved mood, better memory, and higher engagement throughout the day. Making sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and brings a nourishing lunch and snacks helps set them up for a successful day of learning and growth.

School Sport

Over the past fortnight, students participated in two exciting school sporting events: Rugby League and District Cross Country.

Rugby

In Rugby, students were coached in essential safety skills including how to tackle and land safely. After developing their confidence through training, each team played four games, with the focus on learning and fun rather than keeping scores. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience Rugby League in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Cross Country

Meanwhile, our Cross Country team travelled to Merrifield Recreation Reserve — the first time our district event has been held at this venue. Students in the 10 and under category ran 2km, while the 11 and 12 year olds completed a 3km course. Despite a touch of rainfall, the event was a huge success. A big congratulations to all students who represented our school with great effort and determination, and an extra well done to those who qualified for the next round!

“Everybody tried their best and we are proud of everybody who competed in cross country and congratulations to everyone who is moving onto the next round” - Jake Slater 6B
