Happy Easter to everyone!
Dear Families,
Welcome to Issue 5 of our iNewsletter! We hope this newsletter continues to keep you up to date with all the news, events and learning that happens at St Roch's.
We gathered last Tuesday at school during our Morning Greeting to pray for Pope Francis who passed away on Monday 21 April. We took a moment to acknowledge the passing of Pope Francis who died at the age of 88. As our Pope for the last 12 years, he has certainly left his mark on many of us. Pope Francis' quest was for us to look after each other, our world, our earth and our common home. He spoke recently of the promise of a New Life and a New Beginning with the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Pope Francis is known for seeking justice and striving to live in global solidarity. He said that "Kindness is a firm and persevering intention to always will the good of others."
May God welcome Pope Francis to eternal life.
Welcome to Term 2 at St Roch's!! With us all returning after the Easter weekend, I read recently that Easter is not just a day or a weekend. It is a whole season that lasts seven weeks. After the penance and fasting of Lent, let us make this season of Easter one of joy and celebration. The time away from school give us an opportunity to rest and reflect. Gratitude is a blessing and it was lovely to stop and be thankful for all that we have around us and all that has been given to us from God.
In his Easter message for 2025, Archbishop Peter A Comensoli revisits the moment when the risen Jesus appeared before his disciples and showed them the marks of his wounds. These marks, he says, were not just proof of what Jesus had suffered; ‘they were proof of what he had done.’ Jesus wanted to show his friends ‘that he had taken their wounded lives into his own body.’
Our own wounds, Archbishop Comensoli says, ‘can feel like the end of our story. They threaten to define us, to trap us. They try to tell us there is no way ahead.
‘But Easter speaks another word: a healing word, a forgiving word. Easter tells us that our wounds are not where the story ends. Easter shows us there is a path to healing, and a vista onto a new dawn.’
Showcasing our school is a wonderful way to share what happens at St Roch's with our Year 6 Leaders. We always love having current parents at our Open Tours as well. Please let us know if you are interested in supporting these tours. For those parents with siblings beginning Prep in 2026, please come along to one of the next tours with your child. We are currently taking enrolments for 2026 and 2027.
We look forward to an incredible Term 2 with opportunities to celebrate our mothers.
