Kitchen

We’re already into Week 4, and what a fantastic couple of weeks it’s been in the kitchen!

I absolutely love how our teachers are learning too! It’s wonderful to see them joining in on the demo benches, picking up new recipes and sharing in the joy of cooking alongside the students.

Mother’s Day Morning Tea was a huge success — our wonderful Grade 6 students made delicious slices for the occasion, and everyone absolutely loved them.

Extended Cooking has kicked off for our Grade 5 and 6 students, led by our principal team:

  • Grade 5 students cooked apple pie from scratch, making their own pastry, stewing apples, and whipping up some adorable mini shepherd’s pies, by chopping fresh vegetables and preparing a tasty meat filling.

  • Grade 6 students made sushi with marinated chicken and fresh fillings including avocado, cucumber, carrot, and capsicum. They also created a vibrant chicken stir-fry packed with veggies and bok choy from our garden.

Grade 1 students have been busy making apple pikelets, mixing and grating apples, and flipping them on the pan. They also made rice bubble slice, which was a big hit.

Grades 2 and 3 got hands-on with our yogurt pizza dough recipe, learning to knead the dough and top their pizzas with sauce, cheese, and fresh basil from the garden.

Our Kitchen Garden is still looking amazing! We’ve been proudly using our own spring onions, basil, bok choy, and coriander in many of our recipes — it’s fantastic to see the students learning about growing, harvesting, and cooking with fresh produce.

Exciting news! Japanese cooking is coming up with our Grade 6 students, who will be making vegetable yakisoba using our homegrown bok choy.

The Kids in the Kitchen program is still going strong — they’ve recently made delicious Anzac biscuits and are enjoying every moment in the kitchen.

What a wonderful start to the term! Well done to all our young chefs — we’re so proud of the skills you’re learning and the tasty food you’re creating.

🍕 Recipe of the Week – Apple Pikelets

These pikelets would make a great lunch box snack. You can substitute the apple for other fruits such as banana and pear.

Kind Regards,
