Inclusive Education Unit Update

We were pleased to welcome families to our recent online Inclusive Education/Support Unit Information Session, led by Principal -  Andrew King,  Deputy Principal  - Adia Sahid, and Head Teacher - Kelly Ford.  The session provided an opportunity to share important updates and answer questions about upcoming changes for Term 2.

Key Highlights:

  • Growing Student Numbers

We’re proud to see continued growth in our Inclusive Education cohort, a reflection of the strong support and care we provide.

  • New Facilities

To better meet student needs, a new gate will be installed for improved access, along with upgraded change-room and bathroom facilities within the Inclusive Education building.

  • Updated Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

Morning drop-off: Please ensure students arrive between 8:15–8:30 am. Supervision is not available before 8:15 am.

Late arrivals: Parents must sign in at the front office; students will then be escorted to class.

Afternoon pick-up: From Week 1, Term 2, students will finish at 2:55 pm. Pick-up will continue from the Inclusive Education/Support Unit gate, now aligned with the opening of our new building to ease traffic flow.

We thank all families for their ongoing partnership and look forward to a successful and supportive Term Two.

Year 7 Inclusive Education - Community Access

Our Year 7 Inclusive Education students had their first Community Access experience this term, visiting Cecil Hills Shopping Village. Students practiced real world skills by making purchases at Woolworths Supermarket and enjoying lunch at McDonald’s.

Community Access visits will occur fortnightly.

Thank you to the teachers and School Learning Support staff who supported the students throughout the excursions.

Inclusion through Sport

On Wednesday 28 May, students in the Orange and Green class from our Inclusive Education Unit travelled to the Michael Clarke Recreation Centre in Carnes Hill to participate in the Heroes with Ability (HWA) Sports Program.

Heroes with Ability is an organisation co-founded by a valued member

of the Cecil community, Marco Quintao.

His son, Marco Jr., was a former student in our Inclusive Education Unit.

The Program ran for one hour and students had the opportunity to take part in soccer, rugby league, basketball and volleyball activities. Students will participate in this Program on a fortnightly basis -  focusing on functional movement and exercise while also promoting fun, teamwork, communication and fitness.  Most importantly, this Program teaches students the value of inclusion – how to feel included and how to include others.

The Inclusive Education Unit at Cecil Hills High School is a proud supporter of the

Heroes with Ability (HWA) organisation.
