National Simultaneous Storytime:

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

Now in its 25th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Prep to Year 6.

We are the Library Team for Term Two. We are Edie, Audrey, Sammie, Eva-Rose and Ella. This term we have the National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday, 21st May at 12pm. The book that has been chosen is called Truck Cats By Deborah Frenkel and Illustrated by Danny Snell.

This book is about a cat named Tinka that travels around in a truck with their owner, Yacoub. 

We wanted to invite all families and teachers to take a photo or draw a picture of themselves reading an awesome book with their pet. If you don’t have a pet, maybe your neighbour has a book loving pet or you have a squishy toy that likes to read in bed with you.

We are creating a big collage in the library with all of our pets enjoying our books.

Pictures can be brought into classroom teachers or handed to Lizzy in the library.

Lizzy already has a few pictures of her cat Elaine Benes and two sausage dogs, Olivia Benson and Bubble-O-Bill enjoying Truck Cats and a variety of books featuring sausage dogs. For some reason Schnitzel Von Krumm with a very low tum and Trevor (the hero in Pig the Pug) are favourites in this household!

We are looking forward to creative snaps and drawings of a wide variety of pets and toys enjoying different books. Remind all pets that chewing library books is not on.

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is still in full swing. Nearly all students have added their books and some amazing reviews.
