We’ve had a big few weeks in Year 4, with plenty of exciting learning experiences both in and out of the classroom.
Our camp at Oasis Christian Camp in Mt Evelyn was an eventful few days. Students embraced all the activities—bushwalking, low ropes, games, campfire sessions, and more. It was great to see them stepping out of their comfort zones, working together, and building stronger connections with one another.
A huge thank you to our parent helpers who made the camp possible. We truly appreciate your time and support.
Below are some photos from our time away.
On Friday, students took part in a meaningful and engaging session with Scott Darlow, an Indigenous educator and musician. Scott shared personal stories, music, and cultural knowledge that helped students better understand Aboriginal perspectives and history. It was a valuable experience and prompted lots of thoughtful discussion back in the classroom.
As part of our Inquiry Unit, the Year 4 students have been learning about the history of Australia, with a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes learning about their cultures, belief systems, and histories. Students have explored timelines detailing the presence and contributions of Indigenous groups in Australia.
A highlight of their learning has been studying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maps, which sparked great excitement as students discovered the many different tribes that make up Australia. The children have also taken an interest in the Woiwurrung language and have enjoyed learning and using words from the local language group.
From Monday 23rd to Friday 27th June, we’ll be celebrating Science Week across the school. Students will be involved in a range of fun, hands-on activities—think bouncy balls, slime, and even bouncy eggs! It promises to be a messy, exciting, and educational week full of scientific curiosity.
The AFL footy clinic was a huge hit with students. They practised skills like handballing, goal kicking, and teamwork through a series of fun drills and games. It was a great opportunity to get active outdoors and enjoy some sport together.
Following the camp, students were keen to reflect on their favourite parts of the experience. In Writing, they’ve each worked on a short recount, choosing one activity that stood out to them. From flying fox adventures to evening games and marshmallows around the fire, it’s been great to read their personal highlights and see how much they took away from the experience.
Thanks again for your ongoing support.
Warm regards,
The Year 4 Team
