Art

This term in Art, our Foundation to Grade 4 students have been learning all about the Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama.
Foundation students explored the artworks by Yayoi Kusama and created their own polka dot paintings. They experimented with different tools and materials including sticker dots and sponges to create a bright and colourful polka dot painting.
Grade 1 and 2 students have been viewing the different ways Yayoi Kusama uses polka dots in her 2D and 3D artwork. Last week, students experimented with using sponges, Q-tips and their fingertips to create polka dots on painted paper. They will use their polka dot paper to create a collage inspired by Yayoi Kusama.
Grade 3 and 4 students have studied Kusama’s famous pumpkin artworks, using them as inspiration for their own pumpkin-themed paintings. They learned how to draw a pumpkin and painted it using vibrant colours before using a Q-tip to create dots in the style of Yayoi Kusama. This week, students explored Kusama's "Infinity Nets" artworks, learning how straight lines are used to create interesting shapes. They used this as inspiration for the background of their artwork.
Grade 5 and 6 students have been learning about the Chinese Ming Dynasty vases. They learned about their history and their value today. Students researched Ming Vases to become familiar with the common motifs and patterns seen on them, such as birds, fish, dragons and flowers. They then planned and created their own design using traditional themes.
