Dear Parents, Carers, and the EPS Community,
It is with great excitement that we welcome students, teachers, and families to a brand new term! We hope you had a restful break and are ready for a productive Term 2. This term is packed with new opportunities, a range of academic events, and exciting challenges. We can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together.
In Literacy, the 5/6s have been learning about ANZAC Day and how Australian men over the age of 18 went to war in Gallipoli on the 25th of April, 1915. We read about a soldier named Ayton, who wrote in his diary about his life fighting for Australia. We completed a worksheet on Google Classroom that included literal, inferential, evaluative, and extension questions. Students were required to answer in full sentences and include key information such as dates, times, and years. These stories help us understand how powerful and devastating war can be when countries clash, and how many lives are lost as a result. In Week 2, we began reading Young Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe, answering questions both on Google Classroom and on paper, and contributing to class discussions.

In Numeracy this term, students have been diving into a wide range of mathematical concepts through hands-on activities and engaging discussions. We’ve been building on our existing knowledge of fractions by ordering, comparing, and converting them into different forms. Decimals have also been a key focus, with students developing a strong understanding of place value and practicing operations to strengthen their skills. These mathematical learning experiences are helping students improve their number sense while encouraging deeper thinking.

A huge congratulations to all the students who earned a place on the netball, football, soccer, or t-ball teams! Interschool sports will run for a total of four weeks, with the 5/6 cohort competing against students from various schools in the local area. We wish them every success and hope they are incredibly proud of their accomplishments. For students remaining at EPS, a number of fun recreational activities have been planned. These include hip hop dancing, netball, dodgeball, AFL, martial arts, t-ball, and soccer.

During our buddies session, the Year 5s have been helping their Prep buddies learn how to play a fun game of bingo. The Grade 5s have supported the Preps by teaching them how to read some basic words used in the game. Additionally, Year 5 students have been playing outside with their buddies once their tasks are complete. The Preps have been having so much fun with their big buddies! We've been playing lots of games and participating in fun activities. By the end of each session, the buddies have had so much fun, they haven’t wanted to go home!

Hello, parents! We’re proud to share some photos of the garden behind the school gym.
Students have been working hard in the garden, especially on the tomatoes. We also have flowers growing and vines to prune. Some of the Grade 6 students helped weed the garden to keep it healthy. We are so happy to be back!
