Principal's Post

Dear Families,

We celebrated ANZAC Day in a number of ways last week. In classrooms students participated in a variety of activities, reflections, learnings and prayer services. As a whole school we gathered around the flagpoles while our Year Six students lead us in a reflective ANZAC Day service. On Friday morning a number of our Year Six students attended the dawn service at Halliday Park where some students laid a wreath and participated in the readings while Chaarya and Ayush attended the Shrine with their scout group.

Mothers Day Breakfast & Stall

This year to celebrate our wonderful mums and mother figures, a group of dads lead by Jason Barrie, our P & F Team Leader, have organised for a Mother's Day Breakfast to be held in a similar fashion to our Father's Day Breakfast.

There will be two sittings for mums and kids to attend; 7.30am - 8.00am OR 8.15am - 8.45am.

Please access CDF Pay to order and pay for breakfast.

Dads, please use this link to sign up to help out with either set up, food prep, cooking, serving or pack up.

The P & F will be conducting a raffle so please keep an eye out for raffle tickets which will come home later this week. This year tickets are priced at $2 each.

The Mothers Day Stall has been organised by Cate Pigeault and Jess Savoia.

Students can bring along $5 to purchase a gift for mum and possibly grandma should there be gifts remaining.

Election Day BBQ

Our P&F are holding a fundraising BBQ here at St James on Saturday 3rd May to accompany the polling booth. Dan Savoia is coordinating this and still requires some volunteers for the 12pm - 2:00pm and 2:00pm - 3:30pm sessions. Please sign up here if you can lend a hand.

AusKick will run as normal.

A Proud Moment for the Flintoff Family – and Our School Community

We’re excited to share some amazing news with a special link to our school community. Rising cricket star Tess Flintoff has just scored a Cricket Australia contract for the 2025–26 season—and she’s done it before even making her international debut, something no woman has done in the past 10 years!

Cricket Australia announced their list of 18 contracted players last Thursday, and Tess was one of the newest names added, alongside fellow young gun Georgia Voll.

What makes this even more special? Tess is the daughter of our very own Year 4 teacher, Mr. Tim Flintoff, who is absolutely bursting with pride—as are we!

A huge congrats to Tess on this awesome achievement. We’ll all be cheering her on as she takes the next big step in her cricket journey!

House Cross Country

This Friday we will hold our House Cross Country which parents are welcome to come along, watch and cheer for your children as they run the various courses around our St James school grounds.

The times are approximate, depending on many factors so please allow plenty of time either side of the listed time.

Event running time 12pm - 2:30pm

  • Yr Prep - 2 running: 12.10 - 1.00pm
  • Yr 3 - 6 running 1.00pm - 2.15 pm

See the Physical Education page for full details provided by Catherine Wall who has put a great deal of time and effort into organising this event for our students. This event will help our selection of the St James Cross Country Squad to compete in the District Interschool event on Friday 9 May.

Marathon Club

Marathon club commences this week. We are looking forward to seeing all our runners back and getting some training in ahead of our upcoming Cross Country event.

Belinda and Katrina have done a fantastic job in coordinating the breakfast each Wednesday morning, however they need some help with setting up the tables and seats, and serving breakfast to the students. Please volunteer via this link

Enhancing Catholic School Identity

As a school community we will once again be administering the Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) surveys with our staff, students and parents to both compare the results from 4 years ago and get a snapshot of where our community sits at the mo. Unfortunately, the administration period only provides a short window for us. We will be sending our the survey information tomorrow, including details regarding an incentive to complete the surveys. We would appreciate as many families as possible completing these important surveys which are quite lengthy.

School Uniform including Hats Update

From next Monday students are not expected to wear their school hats outside. While we follow, "Hats away in May" in our school's Sunsmart Policy, we will continue to remind students of Sunsmart practices like wearing long sleeved shirts, applying sunscreen, and seeking shade when necessary.

Hats can be brought home to be washed but must be returned to school as soon as possible.

We will transition to our Winter Uniform over the first two weeks of term. The aim is to have all students wearing Winter Uniform from Monday 5 May onwards. Until then students may wear whatever school uniform best suits the weather conditions.

Special Food Day - Pasta Day

It's a Pasta Food Day on Wednesday 14th May. Orders close at midnight on 6/5/25.
