Tree Planting Ceremony

On Wednesday 30 April, six current Year 10 Students presented to the Language Centre Class, our College Principal team and our Senior and Junior Environment captains Thaya and Tessa.
This presentation explained their community learning project. Nir, Indea, Sophia, Andrey, Eric and Katherine all attended the Victorian School for Student Learning in 2024.
For one term they lived on their rural campus with students from 8 different schools across Victoria. They participated in a curriculum which included learning about the significance of native trees in the area. Their presentation highlighted the importance of the Blackwood Wattle trees. They taught the students that these trees were significant to First Nations Peoples as they made soap, rope and glue from parts of the tree.
Our gardener, Nick, taught students how to prepare the soil and correctly plant these trees. Students had the opportunity to assist with the planting. They will be watering and caring for these trees, now part of our beautiful Oasis garden.
A well completed community learning project and an excellent experience for all.
