Noah’s American Football Dream

Student Achievement

As the classrooms numbers went down and workday sick leave went up for the 2025 Super Bowl, this year’s game had a little more meaning for Noah Ross. Not only a tragic Chiefs fan hoping for a 3 peat on the championship, Noah was gearing up for the state trials in American Football. As the game grows in popularity in Australia, Noah is making a name for himself as somewhat of a trailblazer in the sport. Whilst the Chiefs couldn’t pull off the big 3rd title, Noah however performed well at the state trials and was named in the Victorian Team which was played on home soil in April.

Noah has only been playing the game for two years, and started out as a quarterback, but has since switched into the defensive roll of safety, a position he describes as and their role is to read the offense, be vocal and communicative on defence to make sure the right play is called. Make sure  everyone is in their position, “I play at the top of the field and play a big part to disrupt the pass game by getting Intercepts and deflections, and to help with run support when the opposition runs the ball, by getting lots of tackles and big hits.” Coincidently Noah’s switch into defence in American Football has also seen him rise in the defence in his other sport Basketball where he has become a starting 5 player for the Brighton Secondary First team.

His training regime consists of 4 hours a week on the field, 3 sessions in the gym a week, a complete change in diet as well as the time he spends studying playbooks for both his local team the Croydon Rangers, as well as the State Team.

This season the Croydon rangers finished the season 7-3 and secured the number 1 seed for the finals, making it to state championships,” The Vic Bowl. “ It was a tight game all the way through, but Croydon finished with a win over the Vikings 28-20 with Noah finishing the game with 7 tackles and 2 pass deflections.

Noah’s American Football dream has helped him focus more on his studies this year as well, which coincides with beginning VCE, as he would love to get a scholarship to College in the USA in 2027, this dream has helped him be more disciplined on the training track and in the classroom.

Brighton Secondary College wishes Noah all the best for what he hopes will be an All Australian selection after a strong showing for Victoria in their 1-1 record at the nationals.
