Around Ironside

4B has been a whirlwind of productivity this week and we are fully into the swing of our new units for Term 2.
In English we have been looking at the structure and language features of informative texts to help answer the big question “How Do Authors Share Information With Their Readers?”. To support our learning we’ve also been reading Storm Boy by Colin Thiele and exploring informative texts about the Coorong in South Australia, the beautiful windswept setting of the novel.
In Math we have been building up our bank of strategies for solving problems involving multiplication and division. We’re strengthening our knowledge of the relationship between multiplication and division by exploring some less familiar fact families. We’ve also been tackling more complicated word problems by breaking them down step by step so that they’re a little less daunting.
In Science we have been looking at the interactions between living organisms in a habitat and specifically the transfer of energy between them in a food chain of producers, consumers and decomposers. We had a lot of laughs creating our own food chains as a team and then acting them out for the class to try and guess. Our learning in Science will directly support our informative writing in English too!
We learn something new every day in 4B, don’t forget to ask us all about it at home!
