Principal's Message

Term 2, Week 4

Hi Everyone,

I hope all of you Mums had a wonderful day yesterday!!  My Mum passed away a couple of years ago and so though I ache as I miss her so much, I felt her in the lovely celebration I had with my husband and children yesterday.  Mums are very special, and it is a privilege to be one.  Thank you again to the P&C and volunteers for putting on the Mother’s Day Stall to help our children celebrate their Mums

Congratulations to Indooroopilly State High School who put on the musical Spongebob Square Pants!!  I was so lucky I got to go along and see it on Saturday night and it was just brilliant!!  I know what goes into a musical and it is a lot, so kudos to the actors, set creators, musicians, costume designers, backstage crew, promotors, staff and the myriads of other people who would have helped out to make it happen - you should be very proud of yourselves!  I have a lot of experience in musicals, and I would really like us to put one on one day…….:)

Our Chamber Strings and Mrs Trudy Weekes were amazing once again -  second in the Queensland Youth Music Awards!!  This was absolutely deserved because the music that came from the Chamber Strings was sublime and would rival strings groups anywhere; I was in heaven!!  Congratulations to these amazing, dedicated children and their families and Mrs Weekes; we are so proud of you.

Speaking of Strings performances, the Intermediate Strings performance on assembly on Friday was so impressive!

Congratulations to these outstanding, hard-working musicians and Mrs Weekes!

Tomorrow, we have the Junior Strings Extravaganza and so our next round of superstars are being created!

I went to a fantastic Principal’s Conference last week and we looked at the next steps and where we are heading as a department and I thought it was very positive.  The Education Minister spoke exceptionally well, as did our Director General.  I am very proud to be in state schooling and feel confident that as an organisation, we are working hard to keep moving to give all of our students the best opportunities.

I also got to go with Mrs Griffin and Mrs Lee to an Explicit Maths professional learning session, and it was very insightful.

I have been looking for a gap in our calendar this term.  I would like to run a parent session on our School Strategic Plan, as well as what the research is saying about best practice pedagogy, so you can support your child at home too and we can work in partnership -  watch this space.

Congratulations to all of the children who have undertaken the APSMO Competition -  Australian Primary School Maths Competition.  I have no doubt they produced outstanding work.

Congratulations to all of our Prep - Year 3 Merit Certificate recipients for last week, what a big achievement!

Next week is our Year 4-6 Merit Assembly and our Year 5 & 6 Choir are performing - how exciting!!

Please note parents of year 6 children, that this Thursday at 6pm, there will be the Canberra Camp parent information session.  If your child is going on the Canberra Camp this year you will really appreciate this session.

Last week it was the Touch Football trials and this week it is the Tennis Trials for the 10–12-year-old boys and girls- all the very best to those children trialling and also, all the best to our children heading off for interschool sport again this week.

Have you noticed that each week there are so many great things happening right across our school and that is not only because of our wonderful children and you their families but also because our staff facilitate a large variety of experiences for our children to enjoy

 SHOUT OUTS TO OUR STAFF!

Speaking of staff, we farewelled the wonderful Mr Amar Dhillon on Friday.  Mr Dhillon has been everyone’s port of call as they enter our school when enrolling and has overseen communication, amongst many other things.  These are huge jobs, and we will miss Mr Dhillon immensely and we wish him all the very best in his next endeavour.  We are currently advertising for a replacement for Mr Dhillon on Smart Jobs and in the interim, we have the very fabulous Mrs Nuala Dein taking the reins - thanks Mrs Dein!

Ok everyone, the Get Caught Reading competition ends this Friday, please be sure to get your entries in!  :)

Have a safe and wonderful week.

Yours in Education,

Angie Kelly

Principal

PS As we come into the colder time of year, please name all of your children’s things -  jumpers, pants, leggings, lunchboxes, water bottles hats, all of it!  If we find named items they go back to your child’s classroom teacher to give to them!
