Assistant Principal Message

We are off and flying through term 2, with retreats, football tournaments, excursions, community days and, most importantly, learning growth!
Learning Growth and Study Culture
Parents and Carers of Year 10-12 would have received notification of their child's learning goals, available via the compass reports cycles. Please take the time to come together as a family and discuss your child's learning goals. This time will no doubt provide a great launching pad for ongoing success and serves as great opportunity to consider growth opportunities, co-create a study plan around family events, or maybe even research career options and consider making an appointment with our careers advisor, Mrs Karen Murray.
Our goal setting work forms part of our efforts to continually nurture a culture of learning and study within our students. Our next steps with our senior students will be on Monday the 18th when Atomi will visit the College during lessons 3 and 4, to provide their expert instruction on how to best activate the use of this powerful learning and revision tool.
On Tuesday the 13th we held our first evening of Parent / Teacher / Student conferences for Years 7-11. With over 2400 individual bookings, it’s clear that our community is deeply committed to the learning growth and personal development of our students. We do still have limited bookings available for our second evening of P/T/S Conferences on Tuesday 19th May, and bookings will remain open until close of business the Monday 18th May.
Anti Bullying framework student voice survey
On Monday we held Gandhi Community day, which was this year organised around ‘Do it for Dolly Day.’ It was a brilliant opportunity to consider and reflect on our shared commitment to anti bullying at Kildare. As part of our work towards a comprehensive Anti-Bullying Framework reflective of our values of Faith, Learning, Care and Justice, we shared with students the results of our recent student voice survey. I’ve included a couple of important snapshots of data below, which will support students, parents and carers in and outside of school, in their discussions about belonging and relationships.
The first chart is interesting as it provides a clear snapshot of the actions of others our students consider to be bullying. We can use this context as we update our policy and response framework.
The second chart serves as an important reminder for parents and carers. As you can see, parents and carers are overwhelming the first adults students will share their concerns with. It reminds us all that we each have a role to play in countering bullying and building the sense of belonging that we seek for our students.
Our next steps will be to hold several focus groups with our students, who indicated their interest in providing further support of our responsive framework to support belonging and inclusion. We encourage parents and carers to engage with their child if they have concerns about bullying and belonging as part of our community, and to partner with us in moving forward in a productive way.
Digital wellbeing - steps you can take to support your child
Finally I’d like to address our ongoing concerns around students under 16 continuing to engage with social media. We will often meet with students who are misusing social media apps. We understand this can be a challenging topic to discuss with your child, and we have provided some resources to assist you and your family in supporting healthy technology use, which you can find via the links below.
