Dear Kildare Community,

This week and next week, our community is celebrating National Boarding School week. The theme this year is “Echoes of Home”, which is a celebration of the culture, tradition, memory and community that shapes our boarders’ experiences every day. Kildare boarders come from many communities across our region. They bring with them a rich diversity of cultures from rural and regional areas. Our boarding school also holds a rich tapestry of tradition since its founding by the Presentation Sisters. It is now proudly co-educational, however, in the beginning, Mt Erin boarding provided much needed education for young women, ensuring that regional girls had equal opportunities to learn and pursue careers, regardless of their gender or birthplace. Our Mt Erin Heritage Centre is worth a visit, where you can explore this history and learn about the courage and determination of the Presentation Sisters, as well as the achievements of our boarding alumni.

We continue to be proud to offer both day and boarding school options. We are taking steps to continually improve the boarding experience. This year we have reintroduced face to face tutoring for our boarding community, with a focus on literacy and numeracy for Years 7 to 9 and study skills and subject specific support for our senior boarders. Please promote our boarding school to friends and relatives. Boarders can enjoy the best of both worlds; an outstanding education with a breadth of curriculum and extra-curricular offerings, as well as weekends at home in their local community.

To celebrate National Boarding week, Our boarders at Mt Erin Boarding have been engaging in a range of activities to celebrate National Boarding week, which will culminate with the unveiling of a First Nations mural and a Boarding Mass next Wednesday evening.

In other news, it has been a wonderful start to the Term. It is great to walk around the classrooms and see students engaged in their learning. Our learning goals for senior students have been shared with families and we are looking forward to monitoring and supporting student progress. We have also had several important events including a life giving Year 12 Retreat with an amazing group of young men and women. Read more about what has been happening in this newsletter.
