Notes from the Principal

Anzac Service
Thank you to the students and parents who supported the ANZAC Day Service in Cavendish. Our community holds our school very dear to their hearts, and to have our students march and lay a wreath means the world to our veterans.
As usual, the Cavendish kids did a sterling job, and we are very proud of their impeccable manners and conduct during the commemoration.
District Athletics in Warrnambool
Maddie Porter & Edith Leese represented our school at District Athletics last Friday. Maddie came 6th in the 100m sprint, 9th in hurdles and 5th in shot put. Edith came 14th in the 200m sprint. A fantastic effort and well done to both girls.
Sienna's Comic
We have a celebrated artist in our midst. Please read and enjoy this comic written and illustrated by Sienna. I also have it on good authority that Sienna sold some of her art work last weekend to a fellow artist who praised her work highly. Sienna – we all hope your art continues to bring you joy and wish you all the best.
Fundraising Thanks
Not only did our Parents Club put in a mammoth effort during the Red Gum Festival, but they backed it up by catering for the Ladies Golf Day at Mooralla. Many thanks to those who supplied food and who helped throughout the day. Thanks to your efforts you raised $1,000 for our school. I know the golfing ladies always enjoy the luncheon because of the effort you put in.
SGSSA Cross Country
Big high fives to Sybil, Max, Toby, Ivy and Maddie who represented Cavendish Primary School at the SGSSA Cross Country. The kids faced some challenging weather conditions, but in true Cavendish spirit, gave their best effort. In exciting news, Sybil won in her age group and has qualified to compete at the District Cross Country in Warrnambool on Friday 15th May. Maddie and Ivy have also qualified. Maddie came in at 6th place, followed by Ivy at 7th. Congratulations to you all, and we wish the qualifiers all the best for next week.
Open Day
Thank you to everyone who popped in for a visit on Wednesday. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our spelling and phonics sessions with you, and I heard lots of people enjoyed the fruit kebabs and recorders. I know some parents are over the moon that recorders will be coming home soon so the students can practise.
We also had some potential enrolments take tours of our school, and they were very impressed with the conduct of our students, our learning and our facilities.
Do It For Dolly Day
Thank you to everyone who wore blue today and donated funds to the Dolly’s Dream Foundation. Participating in an event such as this reminds our students and families to take a stand against bullying and be kind. With our online fundraising page and cash donations at school we raised $313.00.
AFL Victoria Auskick
At the start of this year I was very disappointed to hear that AFL Victoria did not extend an invitation to the small schools in the district to take part in the training session with the Geelong Cats at Melville Oval. I made contact with AFL Victoria to express my feelings, and as a result, they offered to run Auskick on our school grounds. I jumped at the opportunity, not only for our kids, but for the wider community to see what a wonderful school and community we work and live in.
The clinic is advertised as starting at 3:30, but I have asked the coordinator to push this out to 3:45pm to allow children travel time.
Auskick will start at 3:45pm on Tuesday 26th May and run for four consecutive Tuesdays.
This Auskick program is not affiliated with any Football/Netball Club. It is aimed at providing our kids with another opportunity to engage in sport.
AFL Victoria have kindly donated a signed Geelong jersey. Every child who signs up for Auskick will go in a draw to win this prize.
I will be staying at school to help supervise, so I am happy to supervise any Cavendish Primary students from 3:30 who have signed up to join in. Parents of those students will be required to organise pick-up by 4:30pm.
Any child turning 5 this year and up to the age of 12 can sign up. They don’t have to be Cavendish Primary students. Any outside sign ups will need to be supervised by their parents/carers.
Tristan from AFL Victoria has been to visit us twice this week to kick the footy with the kids. Everyone has joined in, and we have had a ball! Literally – with a ball!
Coming up…
- Book Fair is set up and open from Monday 11th May to 13th May in the library. Please pop in and have a look if you get the opportunity.
