Welcome back to Term 2.


Foundation
This term, Foundation students will continue to develop their understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. They will learn simple greetings, counting, colours, shapes as well as explore Chinese cultural events such as the Dragon Boat Festival. Students will participate in songs, games, chants and a range of engaging cultural activities, learning in a lively and interactive way.


Year 1 and 2
This term, Year 1 and 2 students will continue to develop their understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students will learn about time, days of the week, months of the year, drinks and explore Chinese cultural events such as the Dragon Boat Festival. They will participate in songs, games, chants and a range of engaging cultural activities. Students will also revise self-introduction, numbers and previously learned phrases, including likes/dislikes and colours.


Year 3 and 4
This term, Year 3 and 4 students will continue to develop their understanding of Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. They will learn about Australian currency, family members and transport, while further exploring the Chinese Pinyin phonics system and cultural events such as the Dragon Boat Festival. Students will engage in songs, games, chants and a variety of cultural activities to support their learning. They will also revise self-introductions, numbers and previously learned language, including expressing likes and dislikes, colours, days and months.


Year 5 and 6
This term, Year 5 and 6 students will continue to develop their knowledge and skills in Chinese writing, oral communication and an appreciation of Chinese culture. Students will learn about occupations, birthdays and Chinese zodiac animals, including how to describe what these animals can do. They will also study the Chinese Pinyin phonics system and explore Chinese cultural events such as the Dragon Boat Festival. Students will participate in songs, games, and a range of engaging cultural activities. They will also explore the use of Chinese language on iPads and take part in short question and answer exchanges.


Dragon Boat Festival
This is a special and important event in Chinese culture. It is a traditional Chinese festival which falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is in late May or June on the Gregorian calendar. In this year, Dragon Boat Festival falls on 19th of June (Friday).
The students will be introduced to the origins of this festival in Chinese class. They will be participating in dragon boat making and other fun cultural activities when this festival occurs.
