Respectful Relationships at Our School
At our school, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels valued and respected. One of the key ways we do this is through explicitly teaching the Respectful Relationships curriculum.
Respectful Relationships is a Victorian Department of Education initiative designed to support students to build positive relationships, develop emotional literacy, and learn how to manage challenges in healthy and constructive ways. These skills are essential not only for learning, but for life.
Across all year levels, students participate in weekly lessons that explore key topics such as recognising and managing emotions, building friendships, problem-solving, personal strengths, coping strategies, teamwork, resilience, understanding diversity, and challenging gender stereotypes. These concepts are taught at every level, with content adapted to be age-appropriate.
These lessons are interactive and engaging, often involving discussions, role-plays, and collaborative activities that allow students to practise their skills in real-life scenarios. Importantly, the program also supports students to develop empathy, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.
Teaching Respectful Relationships is a proactive approach to wellbeing. It helps prevent bullying, supports positive mental health, and empowers students to navigate social situations with confidence and respect.
We understand that families play a vital role in reinforcing these skills, and we encourage ongoing conversations at home about emotions, friendships, and respectful behaviour.
