Principal Address

Dear Parents,
At Chapel this week, we reflected on Ephesians 2:10, which reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
This is a deeply important message for our students. It speaks to identity, that each child is not an accident or an afterthought, but intentionally created by God, with purpose and design. In a world where young people can often feel pressure to compare themselves or question their value, this truth anchors them: they are known, they are created and they have been made for something meaningful.
I particularly appreciated Ps Beca’s illustration in today’s message, which brought this to life so clearly for me. Just as a pencil is designed to write and not to drive a car, each of us has been created with a specific purpose. When something is used outside of its purpose, it doesn’t function as it was intended and the same is true for us. When we begin to understand how God has made us, we are better able to live with confidence, direction and intention. Sometimes we can also see purpose as something we grow up to do or a specific job etc. Whilst that is true, true “purpose” does not come from just a vocation, but rather purpose is found through knowing Jesus, serving Him and loving others.
Our prayer is that students continue to grow in their understanding that God has placed gifts, purpose and calling within them. As a school, we want to support them in discovering this, and in stepping into the good works that God has already prepared for their lives.

Updates from Library
Premier's Reading Challenge
The PRC 2026 is running from the library again this year, and we are encouraging all students to take part. For those new to the challenge, the PRC is an initiative of the State Government to encourage children to read quality books, which are logged on the PRC website for which they receive a certificate signed by the State Premier. By the time the challenge finishes on September 18th, our K-2 students need to have read 30 books, most of which will be done at school. Our older students read 20 books and can log the books themselves on the PRC website: https://online.education.nsw.gov.au/prc/home.html
All children have their own login and if you would like your child’s details, please email Diana Auckett at d.auckett@hpcs.nsw.edu.au.
Our library catalogue now available online
Our students can now log in to our library catalogue in the classroom or at home to browse and reserve new books and even leave book reviews. They can also keep track of their loans and renew them if they wish. The website to access the catalogue is https://hpcs.softlinkhosting.com.au/oliver/home/browse/list and if you would like your child’s login details please contact Diana Auckett on her school email.
