4/5A

Students have settled well into the routines of the classroom this term, particularly with the introduction of a new teacher. They have adapted quickly to expectations and processes, and I appreciate the consistent positive attitude and behaviour they are showing each day.
In our Knowledge Building unit, we are working on the human body. Students have been learning about bones, joints, ligaments and tendons, and how they all work together to support movement. Real-life examples have helped support this learning, with the added benefit of having a teacher who can draw on a long history of football injuries to explain how these systems can be affected in practice.
In Mathematics, we have been focusing on fractions and decimals. Students are developing their understanding of place value, with particular emphasis on recognising that hundredths are smaller than tenths. This has required some careful thinking, but students are making steady progress.
We have also been focusing on handwriting. Each morning, students complete a short writing task linked to a historical event from that date. So far, we have explored William Shakespeare, George Washington, and on May 4th, Star Wars provided a very popular context for writing. This routine is helping students build consistency in their handwriting while also developing general knowledge.
