Child Safety
Child Safe Standard 2
This standard focuses on listening to children, respecting their views, and helping them understand their rights and safety.
What does this mean for your child at school?
1. Your child’s voice matters
Schools encourage students to:
- Share their ideas and concerns
- Speak up if something doesn’t feel right
- Be involved in decisions about school life
2. Children learn about their rights and safety
Your child is taught:
- What feeling safe looks like
- The difference between safe and unsafe behaviour
Who they can talk to if they are worried
3. Safe environments for speaking up
Schools create ways for students to:
- Talk to trusted adults (teachers, wellbeing staff)
- Report concerns safely and confidentially
- Know they will be taken seriously
4. Inclusion for all children
Extra care is taken to ensure all students feel heard, including:
- Children with disabilities
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
- Children from culturally diverse backgrounds
What does this mean for you as a parent?
- You can expect the school to listen to your child’s views and concerns
- Your child will be supported to speak up safely
- The school will work with families to promote a culture of respect and safety
Message from Ange,
Each month for the next ten months we will spotlight each of the 11 Child Safety Standards. MACS has developed resources to support a deepened understanding of the standards for parents and teachers and how they help support the safety of each child.
If you have any feedback as to how we can further support upholding standard 2 or what we are already doing well, please email angela.flint@smnthmelbourne.catholic.edu.au.
