INFORMATION
🍎 Welcome to Prep!
We are so excited for the year ahead with you and your children. We know it will be a year filled with learning, joy and wonderful personal growth. Please know that we are here for both you and your child every step of the way. We are always happy to answer questions, listen to concerns and support you as you navigate this exciting first year of school together.
🚪Classroom Entry expectations
On the first day of school, Thursday 29th, parents are welcome to come into the classroom briefly to take a 'first day' photo and make sure your child feels settled. We kindly ask that you say goodbye promptly so students understand that their teachers will take over the settling from there.
From the second day onwards, Friday 30th, we ask that students enter the classroom independently and that parents remain outside the classroom. Our team will be there to support any children who need a little extra help.
📱iPads
Preps do not need to bring their iPads to school just yet. We will share all the information you need about setting up iPads and let you know when it’s time to start bringing them in later in the term.
For now, our focus is on helping students settle into school and establishing strong, consistent routines. Please hold off on sending iPads to school until you hear from us with further communication.
Thank you for your support as we ease into the school year together.
CURRICULUM: THE FIRST 3 DAYS
Wednesday 28th January: Book Drop off
Session 1: 9.15 - 10.15am
Session 2: 11.45 - 12.45pm
• During this hour, you will be able to drop your child’s books off in their classroom. Please bring the books in the purple calico bag they came in, as these bags will be used again to send books home at the end of the year.
• A display on the TV will guide you on where to place books and other items. Please follow the instructions provided, and of course, we’ll be there to help you as well.
• You are welcome to attend whichever session suits you best. You’re free to stay for a little while or for the entire hour - whatever works best for you.
Thursday 29th January: Half day
Thursday is a half day for Prep students. We will begin at 9am with a gentle, play-based start to help the children settle in comfortably. Throughout the morning, students will complete a Starting School book, which will be sent home by the end of the week, which is a special keepsake from their very first day.
We will also spend time learning our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) expectations. This includes things like greeting each other in the morning, lining up calmly, playing safely outside, showing kindness to others and developing the habits that help us to “Be Kind, Be Safe, Be a Learner.”
At 12pm, there will be a Welcome BBQ for parents. Our Prep students and their Grade 6 buddies will join you at 12.30pm. At 1.00pm, the school day ends for prep students and children will head home for the day.
Friday 30th January: Full days start
Friday is the first full day for our Prep students. Throughout the day, children will continue learning and practising our SWPBS behaviour expectations, which help create a calm, safe and kind learning environment. They will also begin their CBL learning by creating an About Me bunting that will be displayed in the classroom.
Students will go on a tour of the school to explore important spaces, meet key staff members and become familiar with their designated play areas. We will finish the day with community play, giving the children time to connect, explore and unwind after a big first week.
🌏 CBL: Community
Our Big Idea for this term is Community. Feeling part of a community is essential for children to feel safe, settled, and ready to learn. Through CBL, we will spend time building strong, connected classroom communities. Students will explore this concept in the following ways:
Guiding Questions
• What are the qualities and interests that make me “me”?
• What are the qualities and interests of others?
• How do I build positive relationships?
• What behaviours help create a positive and inclusive community?
They will also consider the Essential Question, Why is it important to build a positive and inclusive community?
Finally, students will work towards our term Challenge, Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom community.
