2/3 S

Kii everyone and welcome to 2026!

The first full week of term has been lots of fun. We are getting into rhythm and routine and getting to know each other.

We are starting this year with a main lesson on Irish Fairy Tales. The first tale we heard was The Children of Lir, this is a tale about a Kind King who marries a wicked woman who turns his children into swans, and they live as swans for 900 years. It was a joy to see the beautiful pictures and then descriptive writing in line with this story.

We have also gotten creative in maths, building houses out of shapes, both 2D and 3D.

The usual morning circle songs, run around games outside and weekly painting have all helped with a smooth transition back!

Antoinette is taking the kids on Friday and is doing an amazing cooking program with the kids, along with extra craft! Go Antoinette.

Thanks for all being at school time and I am looking forward to the year ahead.

3/4S

Kii 3/4S families!

We’ve had such a fantastic start back to school! Students have been settling in well and enjoying their time together after the summer holidays. I’ve been so impressed with our Grade 4’s. They have been stepping up as leaders to show our 3’s around the classroom and working together to help them feel comfortable. It has also been such a joy to spend time with the Grade 3’s and to slowly get to know each other.

Main Lesson

Our current Main Lesson is Norse Mythology. We’ve begun by exploring the creation of the world through Norse Mythology stories. The worlds of Norse mythology were divided among three levels, all held together by Yggdrasil (the tree of life). The upper level consisted of Asgard, the world of the Aesir gods. The middle level consisted of Midgard, the world of the humans, giants, elves and dwarves. The lower level consisted of Niflheim, the world of ice and mist; Muspelheim, the world of fire and lava.

I’m sure your child would love to share their understanding of these myths with you, with a little prompting!

Literacy

In Literacy, students created drawings about their school holidays together on a large roll of butcher paper on the carpet. This low stress activity gave students the opportunity to discuss and share about their holidays organically, as they naturally enquired about each other’s drawings. We began reviewing the Writer’s Workshop model and students used their drawings as SEEDS for their first piece of writing for the year.

‘Writer’s Workshop’ includes 6 distinct steps: unpacking a seed, planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. The initial stage of the Writer’s Workshop is where students generate ideas for their writing. A SEED could be anything, an experience, a picture, song, poem or sentence. Unpacking a seed involves exploring and recording any ideas that are generated through that SEED. Once students have unpacked a SEED, it is time to plan their writing. We will be explicitly reviewing each step of the Writer’s Workshop process during Literacy lessons in the coming weeks.
