Leadership

This week we saw the steel structure of the ground floor of the main building extension installed, enabling us to see the project take shape after months of ground works. It is amazing how quickly this has all happened and we look forward to seeing significant progress in the next stages of this development.

There have been some associated stormwater works at the front of the school which have impacted the flow of traffic on Hutton Street and while the contractors have tried to minimise disruptions, there have been impacts, especially with drop off and pick up in the ‘Kiss and Go’ zones and around the school crossing. It is important to remember and maintain appropriate driver behaviour for the safety of all students and other pedestrians, as well as courtesy to other drivers and parents/carers picking up and dropping off their children.

The following road rules apply around schools:

  • 40km speed zone at all times
  • School crossings – these can be recognised by bright orange “Children Crossing’ flags. Whenever these flags are displayed, road users must stop for any pedestrian waiting to cross. This applies regardless of whether a crossing supervisor is present. Remain stopped until the crossing is clear and do not block the crossing. Failing to stop at a school crossing is a serious offence and can result in substantial fines and demerit points.

It is illegal to park within 20 metres before or 10 metres after a school crossing point where stopping too close can block visibility

Parking and drop off areas:

There are two designated ‘Kiss and Go’ areas each side of the Hutton Street crossing zone on the school side of the road. These are designated areas where drivers can drop off students safely without leaving their vehicle. You cannot park in these zones, which require drivers remain no longer than 2 minutes.

Drivers should be especially mindful of ‘No stopping zones’ which must be kept clear at all times. If parking spaces are unavailable close to school, consider parking further away and walking your child to school.
