Learning, growing and celebrating together...
Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,
It is with great excitement that I welcome everyone back to the beginning of a brand-new school year. I hope you all enjoyed a restful and refreshing break and found time to relax, recharge, and make special memories together. Perhaps you enjoyed some warm weather with a thirst quenching icy pole or ice cream, whilst you were on holiday?
To me the start of the year always feels a bit like opening the ice cream freezer or standing in line at the ice cream shop on a hot day. So many choices and decisions ahead of us. All exciting in different ways. And we all have a favourite or favourites. Dependent on our mood and the weather.
It has been a joy to see our classrooms and playground full again today, with plenty of big smiles, new uniforms, new shoes (and new hats) and lots of laughter and energy filling the school grounds once more. Well done and thank you to everyone for jumping back into school life, as we switch back to routine mode and traffic on the roads.
But let’s get back to the ice creams and icy poles, and the excitement that they bring us, just like a new school year.
When we make that BIG decision, there are many different factors to take into account. What flavour? How many scoops? Do I get two of the same flavour or do I mix it up? Do I want gelato or ice cream? So many elements, so much opportunity. Do I play it safe and stick with what I know I like, or do I venture beyond the great divide, try something new and crazy? Even though I may not like it.
The new school year also brings us similar decisions, leading to many possibilities and opportunities. And just like selecting an icy pole or ice cream, the new school year is a chance to try new things, discover new interests, build new friendships, learn new skills, and grow in confidence. Just like enjoying our favourite icy treat, learning is best when we take our time and enjoy the moment along the way.
At the start of the year, it’s important we all remember that every icy pole melts if we don't look after it. In the same way so does our learning and friendships. We cannot rush those either. Finding our feet in a new classroom takes time too, just like that icy treat! Our teachers and staff are here to help everyone enjoy the process, no drips, no mess, just plenty of support and care.
So whether you crave a classic Paddle Pop, Bubble O Bill, Zooper Dooper, Cyclone, Magnum, Cornetto, Drumstick, whilst still dreaming about those sizzling days spent with Sunny Boys, Crazy Critters, Scribbler, Alf, Smurfee, Rocket, Mint Paddle Pop (Yes that’s right kids, mint Paddle Pop was a thing), or Peppermint and Rainbow ice cream in a waffle cone, or Cookies and Cream with Jaffa in a standard cone, let us all celebrate the wonderful mix and diversity we have here at Sacred Heart Kew, making us so special, as we begin this new school year together.
To all our new flavours, a very special welcome to you. You are now part of our expanding school community freezer and we look forward to getting to know you. To all our returning flavours, thank you for your continued support and partnership, as you now share your special place with our new flavours.
I wish everyone a happy and successful start to the year, and I look forward to all that we will achieve together in 2026, as we blend all our classic and new flavours together.
Wishing everyone a fantastic 2026 school year and weekend ahead.
Kind Regards,
Ed Weekes
School Principal
